McVay Yachts was the father of of Victoria Yachts.

Long before the first thought of the Victoria 18, before the first mold was made, roving was laid, and the first sail of the Victoria 18 came McVay Yachts of Nova Scotia.

Bob McVay (who probably helped build more McVay boats than any other person) still resides in Nova Scotia close to the spot where he and his family built McVay Sailboats . He is the brother of Bill McVay, and son the son of George McVay the designer of McVay Yachts.

Last fall I was contacted by a new owner of a Falcon Sailboat built by McVay Yachts of Nova Scotia. After asking the typical questions about McVay, and the history of his boat, I was sorry to have to tell him that there was very little published information that outlined the history of his boat, and that of the McVay family boat building business over the last 30 or 40 years.

During our discussions, and after realizing that he lived just a short drive from Nova Scotia (almost in the backyard of Bob McVay ), he offered to take on the challenge of contacting Bob McVay and documenting some of the history surrounding the family, their unique business of building Sailboats, and a little bit about the different boats they manufactured.

Several day's ago I recieved a response from Bob and NellieWalkinshaw concerning their visit with Bob McVay. They have put together a great article that covers many of the bases as far as history goes, and lets us see a glimpse of what life was like for the McVays during the startup, and production span of McVay Sailboats .
