Friday

Don picks up Bob McVay at the Baltimore Airport on Friday at about 10:00am.

Bob suffers through Don telling him about the "Big One" that got away while fishing when he was 4 years old. It seems that Don has a tendancy to tell almost everyone about that particulat story. Have you heard it?

If not ... you will!

Before we head to the cottage to meet the folks from the Fest, we decided to head over to the dock and check out the Vic's!

Bob is excited to be onboard a Vic and to review the details of what his brother had designed and built years earlier.

Bob comments on the interior sole and layout of the cabin.

Bob also reviews the layout of the cabin and the functionality that exist.

After a quick review of the Victoria 18, we head off to the cottage to pull a fast one on the group! We decide to have Donald enter and tell them that Bob was nowhere to be found at the airport! Bob was to wait outside for about 15 minutes then enter with his own story.

Everyone is dissapointed when Don tells them that he waited for about an hour at the Airport but there was no Bob to be found.

Peter Mann still insists that the whole Bob McVay thing was made up by Donald. Cas agrees, and states that Will McVay is also a figment of Dons imagination. They toast to me for actually pulling it off for 3+ years. They comment on the logistics Don must have used to maintain the fasod of communication back and forth with the other members of the forum as Bob and Will. Truly a great set up!

But wait . . . there is a knock-knock at the door ... who could that be?

Nancy answers the door and finds a gentleman representing himself as Bob McVay there! Bob steps in and says he waited for Don for about an hour at the airport, and then finally decided to hitchike to Rock Hall. Bob says he made it in 2 hours in 2 seperate rides!

Nancy and Peter are still very apprehensive about things, and quizz the gentleman about his comments of being Bob McVay. They also say that the chances that he found a ride straight to Rock Hall a very remote possibility.

He explains that he found 2 rides and that he would not fib about a thing like this.

Finally, the pressure on Bob applied by Cas, Nancy, Peter and Bill Cole overcomes Bobs ability to maintain it. He breaks down in tears for trying to scam the group with the hitchiker story.

The group forgives Bob and he instantly recovers and starts into his history of McVay Yachts.

Bob shows the group an original 1/2 mold of the Bluenose built by his father and himself in the 60's

Bob finally gets a long awaited Beer after promising NOT to try to pull any more fast ones during the Fest.

Pete Heinlein shows the group how he can make the top of a Beer bottle sound just like an expensive crystal wine glass. He proceeds to play "Greensleeves" on the beer bottle top while Bob sings along to some Nova Scotia sailor songs. You can just see Mark Hanna in the lower left of the photo. He is trying to dance that Russian thing where you cross your arms and kick your feet out.

Finally, after the music, song and dance, we all head out to the living room to hear some history about McVay Yachts.

Bob gives us some great info on his father, McVay Yachts, and the boats he and his family built.

After about 30 minutes, Bill Cole decides that there has been enough drinking and asks everyone to try to touch their noses. Cas is just about the only one that can do so. Bob says he could touch his nose, but he is confused on how to do it while holding on to the half mold of the bluenose. Bill is relentless and wants to make sure everyone that has to drive, can do so safely.

Maureen tries but misses, and Pete Heinlein just wants to be stubborn and says he will cross his arms until the whole test is over. Mark Hanna wants to be different. He says he can touch the sofa table with both arms, but thats about as close as he will get to his nose!

The night ended with everyone heading off to their boats or their rooms.
