- Here is a quick pass at what I used.
I will try and take pictures as I
replace them on the 79. Then will crawl into the 83 and take
some shots as
well.
-
- On the 83 I used:
I. Bronze Mushroom Head-Barbed 1" size, 2-1/4" Flange
Part# 356446 $15.19
-
- J. Bronze Mushroom Head-Barbed. 90
degree 1" size, Part# 273310 $21.99
-
- But the fittings that came out of
the 79 would require a 3/4" size through
the deck Part# 356453 with a 1-7/8" Flange
-
- The original plastic through hulls
measurements are; 3/4" hose, 1.850"
flange, 1" thread(OD) and 1" hose, 2.350" flange,
1.300" thread(OD)

- There is a key difference between
the 79 and 89 I have not decided on how
to resolve yet. The 79 has a smaller fitting in the cockpit floor.
Then
the hose is jammed on past the barb fittings and up on to the
threads. I
don't really like this but the molded dimple in the floor will
on accept
the correct larger fitting.
- When Cutter Mike did his he also
cut a wedge of plywood and fiber glassed it
to seal it. It acted like a large washer/spacer on the inside
of the hull.
I think I will do the same on the 79 as I felt the fittings on
the 83
tightened up OK but not as secure as I would have liked. The
spacer would
really make it snug up well as the nut would be presented with
a flat
surface.
- The guy's at West Marine convinced
me that marine silicone is different
then regular silicone so I bought a tube and used it. I thought
that
silicone was silicone but what do I know.
- I used all stainless clamps, watch
out some have stainless bands but carbon
screws. I put two on each fitting. I used the series 148 multi-purpose
vinyl hose. The hose is stiff but with a straight fitting through
the deck
and a 90 degree fitting through the hull you can route the hose
pretty
cleanly. (on the 83, not sure what is in store for me yet on
the 79)
- Hose is on page 446, Through-hulls
are on page 450 of West Marine 1999 master
catalog.
-
- Things are warming up here and business is
brisk so have not had much time
for internet stuff. Would guess that's the same with everyone,
traffic
will be pretty light as we all scramble to get things ready for
another season.

- Thought you might get a kick out of the little
shelter I put up to store
the 79 in. They said I should not tarp her till the paint hardens
or it
will scratch and I am hurting for inside space. This winter I
think I can
sneak both of them in there. If so will be kind of neat as I
can still
crawl around on them with snow on the ground. Then in the summer
I can put
the snowmobiles in there. Best part is it's a "portable"
structure so I
did not have to mess with the city getting permits and all. What
do you
think was that a pretty good justification, I wanted to practice
it on you
before I justified it to Barb.
