( Randi
Ernst thought it would be a great idea to start a detailed
listing of the design changes made throughout the production of
the Victoria 18. This page is the result of his input. Randi,
thanks for the input to the Forum, this is a great way to detail
the Design changes on the Vic!)
1977
- First production Victoria 18 Sailboat sold via a Dealer.
On 6/17/77 the first Vic VYN770111177 was delivered. It was sold
from Sail Power of St.Augustine Fl. It was delivered to a D.
R. Smith in Abbeville, Alabama.
- 2 Plexiglas trapezoid windows
If there is someone out there who owns a 77, please
try to get a few shots of your boat scanned and emailed to the
Forum. We will post them, and then get to work on comparing the
various attributes of the 77 vs other years. If you know of a
hull with the number listed above, that would be a real treat!
1978
1979
- Square passageway: Smaller than later models, no plexiglass
center washboard as in later models.
- Mast Step Plate:1979 kind of a flat plate mounted
to base of mast Step
1980
- Trapezoidal Ports: Dual, non opening
-
-
-
1981
- 4 oval ports: operable
on some boats, most had 4 non-opening ports of the black plexiglass
frame type.
-
- Formed inner Liner: The '81 also sports a formed inner hull liner that
supports 2 berths, a molded settee on both sides of the cabin,
and a 2' x 1.5' area for misc.. items in the center of the cabin.
Generally kept clear for entry and exit to the cabin from the
companionway.
-
- Vinyl Nose and Rub Rail Combo
: The vinyl Rub Rail and Nose added a terrific
amount of durability to the Vic, but sacrificed some of the great
looks of the teak trim.
-
- Lazarette: The
Lazarette was originally an option that later was included in
all Victoria 18's. It was a nice addition to the boat, and looks
like it required changes to the design of the stern of the boat.
-
- Rudder Assembly 1 (external):
There have been a number of designs for the
rudder on the Victoria. The '81 unit is a cross between earlier
designs and the later 1983 units with a beefed up support at
the base of the rudder shaft.
-
- Rudder Assembly 2 (internal): This page details the internal supports and construction
of the rudder shat tube.
1982
1983
- Plexiglas center washboard: wood on 1979
- 2 Operable opening Ports: of the four, two are fixed
Mast Step Plate: Changes to a "U" shaped plate on boat.
Allowing for a singlehanded "Drop" in mast step vs.
the Dual pin low profile type.

Unknown Modifications
- Randi saw a Victoria under a tarp, unknown year that had
teak on front of the sliding hatch? Looked original
