Design: Micmac 24
Updated 04/13/01
This particular boat first sailed in 1972

A sail just at sundown!

Notice how the Rudder (except for size) fits perfectly the design of the Victoria 18 rudder.

Again notice the same nose design as the Vic 18.

McVay was know for his narrow beam designs.
This gives the boat much less surface area under the water, and allows for roughly the same amount
of drag with the full keel, as most wider beam centerboard boats have.

Although we have not studied the interior of the Micmac 24 yet, it will be interesting
to see if there are similarities to the Victoria 26!

The Micmac 24 was designed by William McVay the first.
Additional details will follow

The following is the History of the Micmac as known up to this point.
(Supplied by Bob McVay, son of the late William McVay, the designer)
When McVay fiberglass yachts were first produced we started building the Falcon 16 which was one of my Fathers first designs, that was in 1954.

The Minuet 18 full keel was first manufactured in 1967, a local boat builder produced the plug using specs made by my Father.
The old service station was used by McVay yachts from 1965 to 1973.

If the Micmac was produced in this time frame, then it was either buil by McVay in this location, or it may have been manufactured elsewhaer by a larger manufacturer, and only designed by McVay.
After closing in 1973 we moved the business to Minto,New Brunswick until 1974,due to dissatisfaction with acturing techniques the business was then moved to Orillia,Ontario. That was when the swing keel came into the design.

For sails etc contact Michelle Stevens at Second Peninsula,Nova Scotia.
