It was March 1999, and the Forum was attempting to build a historical account of the history of the Victoria and the McVays. We had very little to go on other than hearsay. Two day's before April Fools, several of the forum folks received email from a "George William McVay III".

We were aghast that anyone would try to pull such a prank on the Forum when we really wanted to create a serious approach to the historical past of the Victoria and it's designers. George William McVay III burst upon the scene at a time that we felt couldn't have possibly have been accidental. After bantering email about, and finally qualifying GWM3 as the true son of George William McVay II, we welcomed GWM3 to the Forum via a live on-line chat held on Sunday evening April 2, 1999.

There were 6 or so members at the chat, and each and every one of them were on the edge of their seat with every comment that GWM3 made. The most anticipated answer was to the question posed by Jerry Wrenn, "Why did Victoria Yachts stop producing Victoria 18's ?". (the answer, and complete text of the GWM3 chat is available here at the Forum Web Site).

G.W. McVay III currently resides in Georgia. He is an avid sailer. He owns a 1980 Victoria 18 that he feels he probably helped build when he worked at his dads shop in DeBary during the summer of 1980. He spent time climbing into the hull, and bolting the deck to the hull. At age 10, he was small enough to get inside the hull without any trouble, and handle the job of threading the stainless nuts onto the through bolts for the deck to hull joint.

G.W. McVay III is currently a member of the Victoria 18 Forum, and is available to answer any question you might have concerning his family, Victoria Yachts, the Victoria 18, and sailing in general.
