Barb and I were staying over by "Rodent World" on the southwest side of Orlando. Weather was fantastic, mid to upper 70's clear blue sky light breeze. We drove north on 4, there are a couple of good size lakes north of Orlando. The Benson Junction road runs between 4 and 17 on the north side of one of the lakes (then on to Benson Junction I guess). In my mind I could see this huge marina/boat works right on the edge of the water with big docks, manicured lawns and all.

We jumped off of 4 at exit 53 and headed east towards 17. Nothing but houses so I realized it was further over on the east side of 17. Sure enough about a block east of 17 in the middle of nowhere was the old factory. Kind of a backwoods swampy feel to the place, must have been fairly remote 20 years ago. Kind of a little island of industry in the middle of the swamp. Everything was pretty well run down, looked like the old factory has been used for storage or something.

The first pictures of 203 Benson.

There were two or three separate buildings, all pole barn construction.

Great picture of the front door, the entrance used by Bill McVay every day that he came to work on his Vic 18.

The stacks used for air circulation and curing of the fiberglass.

Side lot view of 203 offices.

This may have been the final inspection and shipping location, with the crane in the background.

Kind of sad, knowing the energy and dreams that went into the great little boat, and the current decaying condition of the once bustling Victoria home.

A next door neighbor.
